The Sheep River Health Trust and Eagle 100.9 have made Okotoks Sobeys their home for the day as they broadcast for a good cause.

Thursday is the annual Together We Make a Difference Radiothon where funds are raised to support health and wellness initiatives in the Foothills.

Tanya Thorn, Sheep River Health Trust representative, says there's eight different groups they're supporting this year.

"For the Oilfields General Hospital in Black Diamond we're renovating a tub room out there, then the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre in Okotoks we're creating more privacy space through the Urgent Care, there's the inclusive playground in Turner Valley, some equipment for AHS integrated home care, KidSport, It Takes a Village, Foothills SNAPS, and Rowan House."

Thorn says they started the day strong thanks to their three health champions.

"Okotoks Ford, Anthem United, and Century 21 Foothills have each started our day with a $5,000 donation so we started the day with $15,000," she says. "We're hoping by the end of the day to be sitting around $65,000."

People have the option to sign up as a health hero where a monthly contribution is made to the health trust. There's currently about 60 people who have signed up.

Donations can be made by calling (587) 998-8356, stopping by Okotoks Sobeys, or visiting Marv's Classic Soda Shop in Black Diamond from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.

So far just over $40,000 has been raised.
