Foothills Advocacy In Motion Society (FAIMS) has started a new partnership with Diabetes Canda, in an effort to expand their services for their clients.

FAIMS provides developmentally disabled adults in our community with support and employment opportunities through services like picking up recycling, delivering newspapers, cleaning the local movie theaters, working at McDonalds and even landscaping.

Now those being supported by the local not-for-profit will have a new job in picking up, sorting and delivering used clothing donations from the Diabetes Canada's blue clothing donation bins.

FAIMS Communications and Fundraising Coordinator Jessica Koch says they've just started the initiative Okotoks, Strathmore, and High River.

She says the new partnership does provide some benefits.

"First of all it creates some jobs for our capable bodied individuals that we support here, it gives them an opportunity for them to be out in the community helping and of course an opportunity for employment as we do get paid and then pay our clients based on the amount of clothes we pick up."

Koch says they encourage the community to support them and take their lightly used clothing to the blue bins, as they get paid by the amount they pick up.

"We are paid by the pound so the more that's in there in terms of clothing - we have to be careful that they're appropriate items and if it's all the right stuff our clients get paid for every pound."

As for the clients, they're just excited to start their newest job says Koch.

"They're always excited because when we're able to add something new for them it gives them an opportunity to diversify a little bit and we'll be able to give a few more folks an opportunity to get out into the community."
