When you think about Strathmore, chances are the first thought to come to mind is not the Town's homeless population.

For Pastor Elizabeth Karp with the Harvest Healing Church, it's something she thinks about, and more importantly she's doing something about it, as her and a lot of donors and volunteers have built a homeless shelter.

"There are homeless people in Strathmore. Again, it depends on what you define as homeless. There's people that have died in the winter time due to exposure and things like that. There's people living in their cars. We've found people living in the dog park in tents. And the churches see it more than anybody, because they come to the churches for help."

Karp says it's not a permanent solution.

"It's a maximum five night stay right now. Central point of resource where people can come in and tap into the amazing resources we have in our area. So, they can come in get a meal, those kind of things. Then we send them off for the day. If they want help, you know there's lots of places they can tap into that we'll direct them to."

Pastor Karp says they're close to having the facility open, they just need to finish installing their fire suppression system and a couple more things before they can start to take people in.
