Alberta's Wildrose Opposition Party says the NDP's move to freeze the wages of non-union provincial employees for the next two years is the right thing to do.

Now they want to see cuts to the pay of unionized workers as well.

Livingstone-MacLeod MLA Pat Stier says he's not sure it'll happen though.

"You know it's hard to predict with this government what's really going to happen. Because as we all know this government is a friend of the unions. But, none the less we'll be advocating for rollbacks and expenses to be carefully monitored. We certainly have been putting forward all those kinds of comments for quite a while and will continue to do so."

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is recommending a 10% wage cut for provincial employees as a way to shave 2.5 billion dollars a year off a predicted deficit of 8 billion dollars.
