Okotoks Fire Services responded to 28 calls last week.

Okotoks Fire Chief, Ken Thevenot, says it was a little busier than average for the department.

"We had three motor vehicle accidents, one rescue, two mutual aid calls, one public service call, two public hazards, we responded to 15 medical calls, and four alarm system activations."

Although warm weather is coming, Thevenot encourages residents and businesses to still clear snow around hydrants and on sidewalks to ensure access for emergency personnel.

He says it's important to clear any snow and ice build up near your home.

"Anyone that would have mobility issues at any age would have difficulty walking through that accumulation at any crosswalks or cross sections. If it's near your house maybe be that snow angel and go out and help out so any individuals or even little ones walking to school can access different areas, that would sure help out in this timeframe while that snow accumulation is here."

He's also asking residents to keep an eye out for heavy machinery in residential areas this week as the Town works on a large scale snow clearing operation.

"We do have large machinery running out there with our public works and Operations Department with our loaders and trucks. I advise anyone walking in those areas to stay clear of those machines running, they're trying to do our best to keep our streets cleaned up here."

Parents are also reminded that snow piles on the edge of roadways are not safe, and to keep children from playing on them as they're unstable.
