There's plenty of programs to keep Okotoks residents entertained locally this winter.

The Town of Okotoks Winter/Spring Community Guide has been released and offers everything from swimming lessons, sports and fitness programs, to art and theatre classes.

Janette Messer, community program coordinator, says residents should plan ahead before they register.

"All of our programs currently can be viewed ahead of time on netreg.okotoks.ca so if you are planning on sitting at home and doing the online registration you can go on early, make your selections, then you're ready," she explains. "One of the things that we do suggest when you are calling in is that you do have a look online or at the guide and just review your selections. It makes life easier for you and our client services reps who are there to provide assistance."

Messer says the Town has options to help support those who want to take part in programming but may not be able to afford it.

"We do have some recreation fee assistance options available and we do have our JumpStart funding through Canadian Tire. Also the Family Resource Centre has a fee assistance program that people in the community can access."

Registration for Okotoks and MD of Foothills residents opens at 6 a.m. on Thurs. Dec. 7.
