Last month Nanton RCMP warned residents in the area about a scam involving STARS lottery making rounds in Southern Alberta, and it looks like the scam has made it to Okotoks.

Yesterday Okotoks Resident Denise Kyle received a call from a private number claiming she had won a STARS lottery prize, she says there we immediate red flags.

"He said he's calling from STARS Ambulance, and I asked STARS Ambulance? Because he wasn't saying the company name right, and immediate red flags went up. He said that I had won $58,000 and some type of Ford truck so I told him I didn't believe him."

She explains the man on the line had little to no information about STARS Ambulance when she asked about the company.

"I asked for his name and number and I'm going to call STARS head office, to find out whats going on. Then he asked why I didn't believe him."

There was one more major red flag that caused Kyle to finally hang up.

"He tried to say our town name, he tried to pronounce Okotoks. He said it horrifically wrong, I said well you would know how to say the name of our town if you were from STARS, so he tried to say it again and he failed miserably at it."

Kyle adds the man somehow knew she had bought calendars, and that she lives in Okotoks.

STARS lottery says they do not call and ask for any funds to claim prizes for their lottery.

If you get a call that doesn't seem right feel free to contact STARS Air Ambulance, or go to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website.
