The province will be moving forward with the first stage of their relaunch strategy starting tomorrow with strict guidelines, and two notable exceptions.

Premier Jason Kenney announced that due to promising statistics across the province surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the province and Alberta Health Services have deemed it safe to launch the first stage, with the exceptions of Calgary and Brooks, which will see a more gradual reopening process due to their much higher number of active cases.

In all areas except Calgary and Brooks, a wide number of businesses and facilities will reopen, including retail businesses such as clothing and book stores, farmers markets, hair stylists and barbers, museums and art galleries, and day camps.

Cafes, pubs, and restaurants can also reopen at 50 per cent capacity.

Non-urgent surgeries can also resume.

The more gradual roll out for stage one for Brooks and Calgary will take place over the course of 18 days.

Some businesses will be permitted to reopen on the 14th, with more to come on the 25th, and the rest to follow on June 1st.

Many regulations and health orders will remain in place, with movie theaters, pools, arenas, rec centres, and nightclubs remaining closed.

Gathering of over 15 people, concerts, festivals, and in school K-12 classes are still not permitted.
