St. Francis of Assisi Academy held the official school blessing on Friday.

The school opened its doors to the public Aug. 30 and since then has started to grow into a community.

Diana Atkinson, principal of the school, says the blessing ceremony meant a great deal to her as she's gotten to know the students and their families.

"Now that I know the students and can see their excited faces in the choir and in the audience, I can't even put the feeling into words. It's an overwhelming feeling of joy."

The community has already started to rally together to build a new playground for the students through the Friends of St. Francis group.

Atkinson says that it warms her heart to see everything she has dreamed of start coming together.

"It's special and exciting, we are building a culture together from scratch, working towards the things that I dreamt about."

Atkinson is not the only one who is excited about the school.

Grade 7 student Jackson Weibel says the school means a lot to him and that school is somewhere he's excited to go and enjoys seeing his teachers.

The class sizes are also something that Weibel enjoys.

"It's a lot better because you can focus and learn more because there is less distracting you."
