Spring time winds bringing in warm weather can also blow in garbage to local parks.

Summer students who work doing maintenance around town don't start until the beginning of May which means there's an limbo period where litter has collected along fence lines and shrubs.

Christa Michailuck, parks manager for the Town of Okotoks, says residents can do their part to help keep parks clean.

"We certainly appreciate everyone's help in picking up litter that they find in parks and we do have almost 200 garbage receptacles at various locations in our parks and we change those regularly."

Michailuck says the town has a significant amount of green space to cover.

"The Town of Okotoks has almost 170 hectares of manicured or mowed park space so it's a large area to get through for all the litter picks we do this time of year, then there's all the natural areas as well and some of those natural areas are a great place to send some of our volunteer groups to."

The Annual River Valley Clean-Up will be on May 7 this year and is open to everyone.
