With Spring here, so is allergy season.

Allergist, Dr. Joel Doctor says it's really one big thing that gets allergy sufferers going.

"The major cause of Spring time hay fever is grass pollen. And that tends to start in early June, and then peak in early July, right around Stampede time. And then some people also have allergies to tree pollens. They typically start to fly in May."

Surprisingly he says all the fluff from cottonwood trees we'll be seeing in the days ahead really don't cause any problems.

"They actually don't cause allergies directly. They're actually a marker of when the grass pollen that's in the air. So, once people see the white fluffies and think that's what's causing the allergy symptoms, but it's actually the grass pollen that's in the air that's doing it."

Doctor says your best bet is over the counter anti-histamines, but you need to take them throughout allergy season to be most effective, not just when symptoms crop up.

He says if those don't work, see your Doctor for more specific treatment.
