The Okotoks Public Library is looking to spread the love to veterans this Valentine's Day.

The library has joined forces with Veteran Affairs Canada and is looking for residents to help create valentines cards that will be delivered to veterans in long term care facilities across the country.

Lara Grunow, assistant librarian, says it's important to recognize veterans year round and not just on Remembrance Day.

"It's a good reminder for them, and for us as well, just how much they have sacrificed of their lives towards our freedom we have in this country and what a great country Canada is to live in so we're happy to be able to spread some love on Valentine's Day with some cards."

Grunow says the library will be giving back to those who take part.

"As part of our Canada 150 celebration we're going to be giving away 150 free family memberships throughout the year so if you do want to come in and make a valentine for a veteran we're going to do a draw for eight family memberships from all the names of people who have brought those in."

Residents are also encouraged to make valentines at home to bring in to the library to submit.

The deadline for Valentines for Vets is Jan. 27.
