The town of Okotoks held an open house Wednesday night at the Okotoks Rec Centre about the upcoming expansion of the Okotoks Spray Park.

The open house allowed members of the community to have input on colours of the park along with some of the features that are being put in.

Okotoks' aquatic manager, Tim Arnholz says that the additions will make the park more enjoyable for the family on those hot days.

"We are going to increase the park from the current 12 features there to 27 features in total."

The park was always designed to be built in two parts and this would be the start of phase two.

In phase two the plan is to also bring the Spray Park controls above ground along with a restroom area.

"We are also adding bathrooms, making it so kids won't have to run across that busy parking lot to get to the Recreation Centre," Arnholz says.

Arnholz adds that construction is supposed to start on August 22nd depending on the weather, and at latest will be done sometime during the 2017 season.

"We are hoping that the construction can be done this season and then all we will have to do in June of 2017 is the commission of it."

The park will be closed during the construction.
