Construction crews are getting ready to take to Alberta's highways this spring and summer.

Sergeant Brent Hawker, with the High River RCMP, says they want to make sure that all of those crew members are able to return home safely at the end of the day.

"Certainly with the advent of spring  the people are able to get out on the highways for road construction and our friends at Volker Stevin are out year round and they do a good job of maintaining the highways but obviously when the sun shines and the weather is warm the bulk of the work takes place and we'd certainly encourage people when you're going through those reduced 60 zones with construction, you adhere to the speed limits while you're going through," Sgt. Hawker says. "We would like to ensure that everybody's kept safe in and around Alberta for the summer."

He says it's important to slow to the posted speed limit even if you don't see workers immediately in the area.

And if you come across a tow truck or other emergency personnel, like police, fire or EMS, working along the road, drivers have to slow to 60 if they're in the lane immediately next to where they're working.
