A special evening for Okotoks Town Council last Monday night as they were officially sworn in.

The councillors and Mayor Bill Robertson were escorted into council chambers by RCMP then Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson witnessed council take their Oath of Office.

Florence Christophers, fresh face on council this term, was elected to council back in 2010 and says she felt different going into last night's ceremony.

"I wouldn't say I was particularly nervous I just felt really grounded and very clear that I only have a four year window to do what I hope to do," she explains. "We've got a lot of work to do and I'm looking forward to a really fun and productive term. I'm already bringing forward a notice of motion. It's like I just feel ready to work, I feel like I'm ready to get down to business, let's do this."

Christophers says residents will see a council that's ready to get down to business at their first meeting next week.

"I think you can expect a council that's confident, that knows what it wants to do. We know the issues we need to tackle, we know we have a small window to do that, and I think we're all willing to just step in and say 'alright let's start getting some traction on some things we need to work on.' "

The first meeting for the 2017- 2021 Okotoks Town Council takes place Oct. 30 at 2:30 p.m. in council chambers at the Municipal Centre.
