With advanced voting for the Provincial Election only days away, Foothills residents will need to begin to make arrangements for how to place their vote.

Voters who can't access a polling station on election day, or are unable to attend early voting, will need to apply for a Special Ballot.

Special ballots can be obtained by mail or in-person at the Highwood Election Office.

Brenda Honish, Returning Officer for the Highwood riding, says Special Ballots can be sent to any Albertan who may be out of province during the voting period.

"There's some people that are snow birds and we've sent some to Arizona. Kids that are in University all over Canada or the U.S. Even some people that are shut-ins and can't make it out, we can send them a special ballot," Honish said.

This election season has been hotly contested between the major parties.

As an Election official, Honish can't give her opinion on any early turnout. But she does say that Special Ballot requests seem to indicate particular interest in this election.

"We have been steady, and it has been the same across the province. There is a lot of interest. People are wanting to make sure they are on the list of electors, so it's showing people are very interested in this election," Honish said

To request a Special Ballot, voters will need to provide identification with a current address. You can find all the information required to request a Special Ballot here.
