The Alberta SPCA is under investigation following a complaint of neglected cattle in the Okotoks area.

The group "Animal Justice" made the complaint public when the person who first phoned the SPCA wasn't happy with their results.

SPCA Alberta Communications Manager Roland Lines says they received a report of a dead cow on the property which gave the investigation a higher priority.

"Our investigator at this point has not found any evidence that would support charges under the Animal Prevention Act. At no time was there a need for us to take the cattle into protective custody."

Lines says sometimes it's tough for them to communicate back to the complainant because of privacy issues.

"In this case because the officer knew the complainant wasn't satisfied with his verbal assurances that the cattle were OK. He did take an extra step of sending the complainant a photograph of the cattle being fed. He verified there was sufficient feed in their new location and he sent a photo of them receiving that feed."

Lines says the investigation continues, despite the fact the SPCA now has to defend what is being called "inaction" on their part.
