Selected Foothills family and youth groups received their official cheques from the Sheep River Health Trust's Annual Together We Make a Difference Radiothon on Thursday.

On hand for the cheque presentations at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre were representatives from the Sheep River Health Trust, Okotoks Ford Lincoln, Century 21, and United Communities.

Leah Sampson is the founding president of one of the receiving groups, It Takes a Village, and says the health trust's support makes a huge difference.

"The significance of coming together and uniting as a community is being put forward for generations," she says. "We're starting a foundation that will make a difference not only today but in the future so by coming together with the Sheep River Health Trust we are uniting as a village and we are helping our local children."

The Radiothon took place in April and raised over $55,000.

Andrea Mitchell, executive director of the Sheep River Health Trust, says the generosity from the community has benefited local groups more than expected.

"The outpouring from the Radiothon was so great from our community that we were able to increase the amounts that we can give back into our donor groups."

Kidsport, Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre, Foothills Lemonade Day, Foothills SNAPS, and Healthy Moms and Healthy Babies also received funding from the Radiothon.
