The Sheep River Health Trust is ready to hit the links with the Foothills Lions Club for its 13th annual golf tournament.

Funds from the Summer Olympics Gold Open will go towards Oilfields Hospital and Rising Sun Long Term Care.

Tanya Thorn, representative of the Sheep River Health Trust, says this is the first year they've partnered with the Lions Club for the tournament.

"The Lions have always been a long-term supporter of the Sheep River Health Trust and they also started running their own tournament but we got discussing and tried to determine the best way we could get the most bang for our buck and we figured it works better if we combine our forces," she says. "It allows us both to make some impacts back into the community."

Thorn says the tournaments have always been a great way to have fun while continuing to encourage health and wellness.

"We've put close to half a million dollars back into health and wellness initiatives in the area and we're really focused on Oilfields Hospital and Rising Sun Long Term Care so it's a fun and entertaining day, pretty laid back, and we always have a good time."

The tournament is scheduled for noon on July 14 at the Turner Valley Golf Course.
