Service Alberta has announced they will no longer be sending reminder letters to us in the mail.

Public Affairs Officer Matthew Cassie says it's up to us to remember when to renew.

"Albertans will soon be in the drivers seat when it comes to renewing their vehicle registrations, drivers license and I.D. cards. Starting April first Albertans will no longer receive the paper reminders in the mail."

He says drivers seventy years and up will still get the reminders but only until April 2017 and those with disabilities won't be affected by the change.

Cassie says we can receive free electronic reminders or do it the old fashion way.

"Stopping the practice of mailing the reminders helps government save three million dollars a year. Instead you can choose from a variety of free electronic reminders or drivers or Albertans can simply mark their renewal dates on their calendar."

He says, "Drivers seventy years and older will continue to receive the mailed reminders until April 2017 also Albertans with disabilities will not be affected by the change and they will continue receiving the mailed reminders."
