Christ the Redeemer has sent out a statement regarding school bus routes for today, Oct. 3. as some roads remain slippery and difficult to drive on.

"At 6:00 am, lead drivers in High River and Okotoks indicated that all routes will run. Expect that driving may be slow, and there may be delays. Please do not leave young children alone at bus stops. Parents always have the prerogative to keep children at home when conditions are less than perfect.

Significant sections of highways 7, 36, and 56 remain under a traffic advisory around Drumheller, with winter travel not recommended as of 5:00 am due to winter driving conditions and reduced visibility. Highway 1 is reported partially closed between Brooks and Medicine Hat, with traffic flowing only east as of 5:00 am.

In Strathmore, Drumheller, and Brooks rural routes will not be running. Routes within each town will still operate, but there may be delays. In these communities the travel of some staff may also be compromised this morning. The schools will be open. If the weather improves as the forecast suggests, we will reevaluate in the early afternoon, and announce the possibility of the rural routes running this afternoon.

At 6:00 am the Prairie Rose website indicated that schools in Oyen are open today. There was no specific notice regarding transportation.

As always, individual drivers have the authority to alter plans or cancel portions of their route after getting out on the road, if they deem the conditions to be unsafe. If rural portions of a route are cancelled, the driver will contact families affected by phone when it is safe to do so. Typically, in town routes will still operate."
