The Rowan House Emergency Shelter is continuing to find ways to help those battling domestic violence in the community.

The shelter has plenty to offer to help women in need of support and education, including their 'Healthy Relationships Group' session.

Executive Director Sherrie Botten says the group has plenty to offer and has helped many deal with relationship problems.

"We talk about about domestic violence educations, what it is what to look for," she says. "We talk about healthy relationships, what does a healthy relationship look like? We also talk about the impact on children and we also talk about boundaries and self esteem."

Botten says the Rowan House will continue to offer the relation group sessions either within the shelter or out in the community.

"For the last several years, we've been doing a group five times a year, they are six week groups and they are for women in the community," she says. "So women in the community that are feeling that they are involved in a domestic violence situation and want education and support."

Botten says so far in the session they've made a huge impact on those who attend.

"What we hear from women who attended the group, is that they have a better understanding of what domestic violence is, they have a better understanding of what they can do to protect themselves and their children," she says. "They just know more about what boundaries mean, what it means to have a healthy relationship."
