The Rowan House Women's Emergency Shelter picked up a nice chunk of change last week.

The Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta Community Fund handed over $25,000 dollars to the Foothills shelter for a new program they're working on.

Rowan House Executive Director Sherrie Botten says the "Community Host Homes Program" is unique in Canada.

"It would be a woman, who's leaving Rowan House and does not have the same safety issues and when she came in. And she is matched with a family or someone in the community, who has an apartment, who has a home and who wants to support someone who is just getting re-established in the community."

Botten says this grant money will be used to help study and set up the project.

Other local groups received grant money from the fund as well.

The Granum Recreation Society also pulled in $2,400.

$11,500 went to the Stavely Community Hall, while the Stavely Unique Character House picked up $5,000.
