The majority of downtown Okotoks will be closed to traffic today, Sunday, Aug. 13, for the eighth annual Olde Towne Okotoks Show and Shine.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Elizabeth and Railway Street will be closed from the Northridge Drive intersection to Railroad Avenue.

Ben Stepa, with the Kinsmen Club of Okotoks, who are sponsoring the event, says the event has grown immensely since its inception.

"The show was started by the Town of Okotoks and couple of volunteers in 2009, and its grown in great proportions compared to what it used to be," he says. "There's 500 plus vehicles in attendance, unique motorcycles, cars, trucks, concept vehicles, we've got a lot of the dealers in town coming bringing some of the newer vehicles, and we're hoping some of them bring concept cars as well."

This year the Kinsmen Club has taken the event over from the Town, Stepa shares any profits made at the show and shine will be donated.

"We are sponsoring the event and if there are any profits made from the it, they will be reinvested into the community's greatest needs; the Food Bank, Rowan House, and Foothills Search and Rescue."

As many as 10,000 spectators are expected at the event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
