The Town of Okotoks is hoping residents will get out their green thumbs this weekend for the River Valley Clean Up.

The annual event sees trash picked up from the river valley as well as 3,000 trees planted there.

Leah Chant, community services assistant with the Town, says the eco-friendly endeavour extends beyond the river valley.

"This is actually the second year we're also doing a neighbourhood parks clean up so if people aren't interested in just going down and cleaning up the river valley they're welcome to clean up their neighbourhood or park near where they live."

Those taking part should arrive properly dressed in closed toes shoes and bring shovels if they plan on planting trees. The Town will be providing gloves, garbage bags, and goggles.

Chant says it's a well attended event that receives a huge amount of support each year.

"There's just so much pride that people have for our town and our community that we just want to keep it clean and taken care of for our generation and generations to come," she says. "It's not just about keeping out river valley clean, which of course is a huge well used area in our town, but now it's becoming a town wide initiative."

Pre-registration can be done by Wednesday or the morning of the event on Saturday at 9 a.m.
