The battle over pipelines has re-awakened some of the feeling western Canadians, and especially Albertans, had about unfair treatment.

Foothills MP John Barlow says this isn't a matter of east versus west.

"We don't want to see that, " he says. "This is a Canadian project and and that's something we really need to focus on, certainly Alberta's being the hardest hit right now but this is something that will benefit all Canadians."

Montreal's Mayor, and a number of other mayors from the area, last week said, considering their concerns, there wasn't enough in it for them to allow the pipeline to go through the province.

Barlow says Stats Canada released numbers last week that show there were 19,000 jobs lost in Alberta last year, the worst job-loss record since the 1980's when the Liberal government of that time brought in the National Energy Program. He says that was really the berth of the east versus west movement and he doesn't want to see that again.

He also says it's disappointing the Prime Minister didn't stand up for the pipeline and the economic benefits and jobs it would bring across the country.
