The Ride to Conquer Cancer made it's way through the Foothills Saturday and reached a monumental milestone in the process.

Cyclists of all skill levels once again took their bikes to the highway in order to raise money towards the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation Myka Osinchuk says the ride has been through a lot to get to the mark of over 50 million dollars raised.

"We had a great milestone this year," she says. "That is absolutely amazing and there's still every sign this is still going strong, and we're hoping for a few more years of great success."

This year's ride raised over $7 Million, with the money going to 15 different cancer treatment centres including the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary and the Cross Cancer  Institute in Edmonton.

Osinchuk says the money helps those centres work with so many people, fighting and dealing with the disease.

"They really are there to help people who have cancer with this journey," she says. "We've been able to help more than 5000 people over the last three years alone, so that is obviously something that has a tremendous impact on patients in the province."

She says the ride was a complete success going through the various communities on the ride, with cheering sections and the dedication of the over 1700 cyclists that took part.

"This has been a really tremendous day for the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, benefiting the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and our grand total was $7.8 million dollars raised for cancer right here in Alberta.

The ride went from COP, Southbound Highway 22 to Bragg Creek and Priddis, before turning at Millarville and heading through Black Diamond and Turner Valley.

Cancer Conquerors then finished their ride at Pason Centennial Arena where they camped out for the night.
