With school out, playgrounds at local parks and schools will be busier than usual.

Motorists are being reminded to watch for playground zones that are in effect every day from 7:30 a.m. until one hour after sunset.

Scott Roberts, protective services director for the Town, says people need to be aware of the speed limit during the times the zones are in effect.

"The speed limit through playground zones is always 30 kilometres per hour, the speed limit through school zones when school is in session is 30 kilometres an hour and, as with the rest of the town, is 40 kilometres an hour when school is not in session."

Roberts says while school zones are no longer in effect from an enforcement perspective, motorists should still be careful.

"The bylaw only covers the days when school is in session but we certainly want our citizens to respect the fact that children do congregate in school playgrounds to play and we would ask that our residents respect those speed limits and travel slower through school zones every day of the year and not just when school is in."

School and playground zones are marked with fluorescent yellow signs that state the times they are in effect as well as the speed limit.
