Alberta now has a new official opposition party after the merger between the Wildrose and Progressive Conservative Parties.

Okotoks is a Wildrose Constituency, and it seems most Okotokians are happy the merger went through.

Resident Debbie Hamilton says she's hoping the new United Conservative Party will rid the province of the NDP Government.

"I'm glad they merged, anything to get rid of the NDP and Rachel Notley, that's my opinion."

Resident Anna Wolfe agrees, while she's wary of the new party, she's hoping the new united front will be enough for change during election time.

"I don't know if thats going to make a big difference in our views on politics, but if it bumps Rachel Notley out then I think that's a very positive thing."

The Wildrose and PC's members both voted 95% in favour of becoming one last weekend.
