The Town of Okotoks is praising residents for their cooperation during the water ban, which has resulted in a massive drop in consumption.

Nearly six million litres of water was saved this past Sunday, compared to the last, which has helped in recharging municipal water reservoirs.

Chris Radford, Operations and Infrastructure Director, says the town has seen a continuous drop in consumption in comparison to the 15,000 cubic metres a day used last weekend.

"It is a continuing trend, Tuesday's demand was 7600 cubic metres, that's significant, that's basically indoor use only. We're still permitting people to hand held water, so that's a great response, it may be because of the cooler temperatures, and some precipitation, but it's still a very significant reduction."

Radford says the general compliance with the ban has aided in replenishing reservoirs to average levels.

He adds how important it is the community continues to follow restrictions to allow resources to maintain a sustainable level.

"The community responded very well, we appreciate that, we're in it together. We will be reviewing this, and we hope that we will be able to go forward and start to look at introducing some kind of outdoor water schedule back into the community very soon."

Although there has been a drop in water consumption Okotoks remains under an outdoor watering ban until further notice.
