It's that time of year again, the big street sweeping clean up begins next week.

Although Town street cleaners run year round, it is still necessary to schedule street sweeps in the spring after large amounts of gravel and sand are used on roads throughout the winter.

Melanie Heemeryk Communications Specialist town of Okotoks says signs will be posted indicating when street cleaning will happen in your neighbourhood.

"Unlike Calgary we do not ticket and tow away vehicles that are in the way, we do post street cleaning signs that indicate when they will be in the area and we give them a two day window. We just ask residents if they could move the vehicle out of the way for those two days."

If there are vehicles or carts in the way of a street cleaner, Heemeryk shares the crew will come back at a later time to complete the job.

As with all heavy machines, residents are advised to take care when driving around a street cleaners.

"The public are advised to stay back from the street cleaners and equipment, and proceed cautiously when driving behind or passing a sweeper, give them room to do their operations."

Heemeryk adds if residents have concerns about street cleaning they can contact the town.

"If residents find that there is an area that was missed, or not to their satisfaction they're welcome to call transportation, and they'll come back and have a look."
