A resident and firefighter were injured in Wednesday night's house fire in Okotoks' Air Ranch community.

Around 11:50 p.m. the Okotoks Fire Department responded to a call for a fire at an attached residence on 29 Rowland Lane.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says the fire was on the front porch and caused significant damage.

"The house fortunately had a stucco exterior so it slowed it up a bit but it still went up into the soffits and got into the attic space so it took us a bit of time but it burnt through the roof as well and created some heavy smoke damage inside the residence. It did push just a light smoke into the house beside it in the attic space as well."

Twelve firefighters were on scene with four pieces of equipment and crews remained on fire watch over night. RCMP and EMS responded as well.

Thevenot says people were home at the time of the blaze.

"There were two occupants at home at the time and they did escape out the rear of the house jumping from their back deck... the one individual made it ok but the other female resident has serious but non-life threatening injuries."

He says a firefighter was also injured and was taken to hospital and treated and released with minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
