There has been a spike in rural break and enters Northeast of Okotoks, according to Okotoks RCMP.

Mounties say shops and garages seem to be the target, however stress the importance of protecting homes, as well.

Most enjoy vacationing in the summer months, providing opportunities for suspects to break in with little chance of detection.

RCMP reminds residents to have someone watching your property regularly, checking it at different times to make it difficult for suspects to detect any type of schedule.

It is also recommended to keep homes, vehicles, garages and shops closed and locked, never leaving keys where they can be easily located.

Mounties also recommend keeping gates closed and locked at all times, and having adequate lighting, motion sensors and alarm systems in place.

It's advised to get to know your neighbours and continue to report any suspicious activity.
