Alberta RCMP have put out a set of ground rules for their detachments during the outbreak of COVID-19.

Effective Immediately RCMP Detachments will be modifying their services including the temporary suspension of all front counter services and the restriction of public spaces withing RCMP facilities.

All non-critical front desk services such as non-urgent fingerprinting and criminal record checks will be postponed until further notice. RCMP are requesting residences with non-emergency inquires to consult the provincial directory and use the number listed. If assistance can be provided over the phone the employee or officer will do so, should your request require an in-person contact with an officer the decision will be made over the phone on a case-by-case basis. The RCMP's Operational Communications Centres are open and fully functional for all emergency calls.

The RCMP's decision to limit public contact in non-urgent situations was made to ensure the health and safety of the general public and the staff and officers of the RCMP to continue to provide essential services across Alberta.

Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP had this to say in regards to the release.

"A number of changes have been put in place to protect the health of our employees and the public. These decisions were made to ensure that there were no impacts on essential services, keeping our communities safe."

"As Alberta's provincial police service, we have sound business continuity plans in place to ensure Albertans can continue to count on us every day, including during times of public health emergencies."

As always please use 911 for emergencies only and in the case of an emergency dial 9-1-1 immediately.
