It's St. Patrick's Day which not only means lots of festivities throughout the evening, but an extra police presence too.

Okotoks RCMP Sergeant Sukh Randhawa says there will be a lot of patrols throughout the evening.

"The RCMP Okotoks memebers will be out and about in the community," he says. "The business will be routine for us in terms of taking calls and responding to any suspicious activities reported to the RCMP."

He says the RCMP has no issue with celebating, they just want people to do it safely.

"We will be extra vigilant in that time, because it is a time for lots of people to go out and about and have fun, and we're not opposed to that; but we also would like to tell the public to be responsible when they're out and about."

Randhawa says its not just important to look after yourself tonight, but others too.

"Watch for each other, if you come upon any suspicious activity or anything that looks out of place, just call 9-1-1 and we'll respond to those calls."
