Another successful year for the Foothills Country Hospice’s ‘Rally 4 Hospice’.

In its fourth year the event saw many out from Okotoks and surrounding area dressed in their best vintage western hit the road in search of clues in classic and exotic sports cars of all models.

Okotoks GM Rory Wood at this year's rally.

Stephanie Barnes, development and communications officer with the Foothills Country Hospice, says they had quite the lineup.

“We had 80 cars altogether this year and really awesome cars too like our lineup of cars was pretty incredible...there was everything from a 1931 model T to new corvettes, we had a McLaren, we had Porsche's, there was just an awesome collection of cars.”

Though this year’s route was different the scavenger hunt premise remained the same, the after party on the on the other hand changed and Barnes says it was a hit amongst the rally participants.

“It was really different this year. So last year obviously we couldn’t do this because we were confined to our vehicles and lawn chairs outside of our vehicles because of COVID but this year we were able to set up a more causal beer garden styled event and that was all the committee's idea and it was pretty awesome.”

As for final numbers from the event Barnes is once again amazed by the continuous support from the community.

"It just feels so incredible, every time we do a fundraiser like Hike for Hospice, when it was online, we were just blown away from the support of our community, from our supporters, we had support all the way from the UK. And even with the rally we get support from our community but also Calgary and surrounding area and it is really is truly amazing.” She adds, “given what everyone has gone through over the last two years it continues to blow my mind, the amazing people we get to work with and that support us, it’s really special.”

As of Friday, (Sept.3), the 4th annual 'Rally 4 Hospice' brought in $221,416 in gross proceeds with donations still trickling in.

Barnes credits not only the Foothills and the ongoing hospice supporters but the 'Rally 4 Hospice' committee, which is stacked with car enthusiasts, for their success.

“The whole committee just went above and beyond this year, it was incredible. They put so much time and effort and talent and hours into making this event so successful and special... they're just so engaged and gung-ho it's so amazing to see.”

According to the hospice’s development and communications officer the committee is already planning for next year.

As for this year, if participants are looking for best costume prizes or the right answers to the rally clues, they can be found on the hospice's site.
