Foothills Snaps is offering a new "Lunch and Learn" program aimed at helping local businesses and individuals focus on what they call "first person language."

Facilitator Jude Heyland says the educational lunchtime chat focuses on putting people ahead of their labels.

"We don't want to go around perceiving people as labels or diagnoses. Because it's just not correct. It's not a way we want to perceive people."

Heyland says most people already want to make sure how the language they use, particularly those with disabilities, is correct, and for most of us, it's still a struggle.

"There's "Ah-Ha!" moments of, "You know what? I consciously want to speak better." Words are very, very powerful. And I want to be able to offer in my knowledge and my way of speaking, respect at all times."
