A Provincial court judge is calling for stricter reviews of gun license applications after a fatal shooting in Okotoks almost six years ago.

39 year old Corey Lewis was shot outside his home after a stand-off with an RCMP tactical team.

He was found holding just a dark coloured umbrella that he had pointed at officers who thought it was a weapon.

Judge Marlene Graham says it's disturbing that Lewis was granted a license for five different firearms despite his mental illness that included a suicide attempt and an emergency protection order.
