A battle over procedures caused a slight delay in the release of the budget Wednesday, March 22 in Ottawa.

Foothills MP John Barlow says the opposition rose up over moves by the Liberal government to change the way things are done in the house.

"They're no longer sitting on Fridays, the Prime Minister would only have to be here for work one day a week, and it would really severely limit opportunities for opposition to debate issues and hold the government to account," Barlow says. "All this does is let them do whatever they want and that's not what parliament is supposed to be about, it's supposed to be a discussion and an opportunity to represent your constituents, debate and answer hard questions."

Barlow says the Trudeau Liberals are trying to push the new rules through without any consultation with the opposition and that's wrong.

He says the House Regulations and Operation Committees are meeting over long hours while the opposition battles the proposed changes.
