Young entrepreneurs are on their way to business success with Lemonade Day in Okotoks.

The event sees kids build their own business plans then execute them with the proceeds from their lemonade stands going towards a charity of their choice.

Ralph Tollens, Co-Chair of the Lemonade Day organizing committee, says the event has seen growth in many ways.

"When we first got started, trying to find a way to talk to the kids was a bit of a challenge. The Christ The Redeemer and Foothills school systems have been very supportive of the program and allowing us to go in and talk to all the kids," he explains. "With businesses the awareness is also growing, they're now very much supportive of trying to assist these kids in different ways. There's just this general growth in participation in the event."

Tollens says for some kids, Lemonade Day has sparked their own ventures outside of the event.

"These young entrepreneurs are now going on to start doing their own things. We have one young man that I know of that set up an import business. He was bringing in those fidget spinners, he sourced them out of China and he brought them in and he set up his own business to sell those."

Lemonade Day Okotoks takes place Saturday, June 9.
