Downtown Okotoks will be filled with great food and drinks this Saturday as the first ever Okotober Food Fest kicks off.

The festival will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Landmark site and Old Towne Plaza stage area.

Mark Doherty, Community Events Coordinator, says the adult centric event features local breweries, food, and music.

"We really wanted to feature local people, so our four breweries are local. We have 6 Corners right from Okotoks, Brauerei Fahr from Turner Valley, Outcast Brewery which is South Calgary, and Hard Knox brewery which is going to be in Black Diamond, the facility is being built as we speak. We've got our four favourite food trucks: Lynnwood Ranch, Chimmi's Fresh Grill, Il Forno Vagabondo wood fired pizza, and Bean Muggin. There's a great variety of foods and samples of beer, and our own favourite band HAGGIS is playing."

Doherty shares the food trucks and live music will be open to all ages, however the beer tastings at the Landmark site will be 18+ only.

He says this is the first adults only event the town has put on.

"We're hoping and encouraging to see people dancing in the street, and this is just a fun time for the adult community. All of our events are really family oriented, and we just thought you know what lets do something a little different. We still want to animate the downtown, so it's a great adventure to come down and just to check this out."

Doherty shares attendees will be able to purchase a 5 oz. mug for $5.00, which can then be filled with 4 oz. tasting samples for $2.00 a pour.

"There's going to be about 16 different varieties of brews you can taste, and these guys work hard to get their formulas in there, and ingredients. They'd love to chat it up with you about their brews, how they make it, and what different flavours there are."

Motorists should also avoid the area during the festival and roads in and around the Olde Town Plaza and Landmark site will be closed to traffic.
