Our sister station Air 106 and Discover Airdrie have a health update that might effect some resident locally.

British Columbia health officials have notified Alberta Health Services (AHS) that an individual with lab-confirmed measles visited Calgary between January 15, 2016 and January 18, 2016.

The individual affected visited the following locations while staying in Calgary.

January 15, 2016:

Exposure Location: Forbidden City Dim Sum and Seafood - 99936 Street NE

Exposure time period: 6 pm - 10:30 pm

January 15 - January 18, 2016:

Exposure Location: Waterfront Condos - 222 Riverfront Avenue SW

Exposure time period: 12 am, January 15 through to 10 am, January 18 (inclusive)

January 18, 2016:

Exposure Location: Calgary International Airport

Exposure time period: 10 am - 1:30 pm

Exposure Location: WestJet Flight WS287 from Calgary to Vancouver

Individuals who were potentially exposed at the above locations, who were born after 1970, and have not already had the measles disease or have not received two doses of measles vaccine, may be at risk of developing measles.

The individuals with potential expose are asked to monitor for measles symptoms. If symptoms of measles do develop, AHS is advising that the person stay at home and call Health Link at 811, before visiting any health facility.

Symptoms of measles include:

  • fever of 38.3 C or higher
  • cough, runny nose and/or red eyes
  • a red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after fever starts, beginning behind the ears and on the face and spreading down to the body and then to the arms and legs

Measles are highly contagious and spread easily through the air. There is no treatment for measles; however, it can be prevented through immunization.

If you are uncertain of your immunization history, or your child's immunization history, you can call Airdrie Public Health or Health Link at 811 to discuss details.

Additional exposure locations outside of Alberta can be found online.
