The Assistant General Manager of Boston Pizza in Okotoks is sharing surveillance footage after the Legion Poppy box was stolen on Monday November 4th.

A man pretending to place an order waited until the employees were busy and appears to steal the box with an undetermined amount of money inside.

The police were notified and sent surveillance video of the theft.

Assistant General Manager, Nick Wright, says they recovered the empty box after the thief entered a neighbouring business and attempted to swap the empty box for the one at the neighbouring business.

Wright said, " He tried to swap it out and he said that he worked for the Legion and the guy suspected something, and I assume he chased him out of the building."

Since the theft, Wright says he has started a fundraiser Champaign on Facebook called the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Poppy Fund.

"We have had tons of support over social media trying to find him and lots of donations to the fundraiser." said Wright.

With a goal of $1000, the funds donated currently sit at over $600. Wright says the campaign will continue as long as donations keep coming in.

Boston Pizza now has someone at the front at all times and they remove the box later in the evening as a precaution.
