Sandstone Lodge is just one of the facilities operated by the Foothills Foundation

The Foothills Foundation is in for a name change.

CEO Lauren Ingalls says the board has been looking at the name for awhile now.

It comes just as construction is about to begin again at Medicine Tree Manor in High River.

"We will probably, as the building gets framed, have a little bit of an open house and we will be re-launching our website and the organization under a new name, Westwinds Communities, starting the second week in June during Seniors Week," Ingalls says.

Ingalls says the word "Foundation" made it sound like they were providing grants to charities which is not something they've done.

She says they no longer just operate senior's lodges but also operate affordable housing and provide rent supplements on a monthly basis to over 170 households throughout a region bigger than the foothills and they really wanted to re-position their identity to reflect the services that they have beyond seniors.

Ingalls says any signage that goes up at the construction site will have the new name and a new logo on the signs.
