With Light Up Okotoks ready to take over town Friday night, local law enforcement will be out making sure residents are safely enjoying the event.

Those requiring immediate assistance at the event are ecouraged to visit the Incident Command Centre that will be located by the Municipal Centre.

The Command Centre is intended for lost children and separated family members, lost and found items, first aid, and general information.

Peter Stapley, Municipal Enforcement Manager for the Town of Okotoks, says with the large scale of Light Up, it's important parents take note of what their kids are wearing.

"Documenting what your children are wearing just to be safe incase you do get separated from them is important because we have areas where kids can go to be found but the more details we have to find the child quickly, the better. It's amazing how many people forget what their child was wearing."

Stapley adds while the weather is forecasted to be warmer, he still reccomends residents dress for the season and watch out for ice.

Cory Forsyth, Okotoks RCMP Cpl., says motorists should plan ahead.

"Just be mindful and come ahead of time. Don't be in a rush. There's children, there's youth all around and everybody's excited to be around the lights and the atmosphere so just be aware and be cognisant as a driver."

Elizabeth Street, McRae Street, and North Railway Street to Lineham Avenue will be closed from 4 p.m.- 10 p.m. for the event.
