The WFG Masters of Curling gets started in Okotoks Tuesday.

Kevin Martin is a past champion and says he's really excited about this years events because there were some problems last year.

"This year I'm really excited about this event because last year there was lots of problems with the brush heads and people being able to direct the stones, it's kind of one of those years you need to delete because you weren't really seeing the true talent of the athlete because it was more of a sweeping game than a throwing game," he says. "This year that's all been taken care of and the brush heads that are being used just don't allow players to be able to manoeuvre the stones while they're sweeping so it's really brought the game back to a thrower's game."

He says on the men's side Kevin Coe and Brad Gushue are among the favourites with Rachel Homan and Eve Muirhead on the women's. He says the front ends, the leads and skips are very strong, athletic people.

The event runs through Sunday October 30, 2016.
