The Town of Okotoks is reminding residents to be conscious of their outdoor water consumption.

An outdoor watering schedule is in place each year from May 1 to Oct. 31.

Melanie Heemeryck, communications specialist with the Town of Okotoks, says there's specific days and times for residents to water on.

"Outdoor watering is permitted one or two days a week," she says. "Odd-numbered addresses can water their lawns on Thursdays and Sundays and even-numbered addresses can water their lawns on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The times during the week are 6 a.m.- 9 a.m. or evenings from 7 p.m.- 11p.m."

Heemeryck says some residents might be able to apply for a different permit.

"You can apply for a water exemption permit for installation of sod or grass seed. To apply for those you can go to okotoks.ca and you must obtain a permit number from town administration prior to implanting your modified watering schedule."

Thanks to residents paying attention to the watering schedule, Okotoks has reached over 46 percent reduction in gross per capita water consumption, one of the lowest rates in Canada.
