When you think of teenagers in today's society, what picture comes to mind?

Dashing young men in black tuxedos and princesses in ball gowns waltzing the night away?

And doing one of those dances with their parents?

The High River Spring Ball is all set to go on March 11 and this year 38 students have spent the last eight weeks learning proper etiquette and ballroom dancing and they are ready to show off those new skills.

Parent Anne Holmes says the Holmes and Morgan clans will be there to cheer on her son Chase Morgan.

"I think he has enjoyed it a lot more than he thought he would going into it," said Holmes.

Beside the dancing Holmes added the etiquette lessons have taught him a lot.

"He actually comes home and teaches us and corrects us about a few things in etiquette and which is kind of fun."

She is a bit nervous about doing the parent dance with him, because he keeps telling her how good he is, she says with a laugh.

Her mom, Dorothy Holmes is excited as well to have a grandchild go through the program.

Dad Jeff Porter is looking forward to dancing with his daughter Kylie. Her older sister Erin won the queen's title a couple of years ago.

But he stresses it's not winning the titles that matter, it's just important to be part of the program for the life lessons they learn.

"From my perspective it's not about winning it's the lessons and the education they get through the program," Porter said.

"You definitely see a maturity in the kids that have been through the program versus kids that haven't been."

He says dancing with his daughter  is pretty emotional.

"It's very special for sure," he added.

Tom Kowal is also looking forward to dancing with his daughter Jennifer. His son Troy was named Mr. Congeniality last year.

"They learn so many great life skills in through this program. I just think it is an unbelievable program for the kids."

Kowal said the friendships the kids form is fantastic.

"It's like being on a sports team or a dance team. It has meant a lot to her."
