The television show Heartland brings tourists to High River from all over the world.

It's been a busy summer for the Visitor Information Centre in High River.

Visitor information representative Madeleine Meszaros says about 1,300 people received information through the centre.

"We saw about 900 people, or close to that, at our actual physical location and then we do something called remote-VIC where we go out to the community and to special events and there we saw about 400 people at the different events we went to," she says.

She says they came mostly from other parts of Alberta and British Columbia, Ontario and  from the United States but that's not all.

"Actually this year we had 20 people come from Germany, ten people come from New Zealand, ten, people from Scotland, so we've had a fair number of people from overseas as well," Meszaros says.

She says the vast majority of those who come from overseas want to see where the television show Heartland is filmed, including Maggie's Diner downtown.

"Just the other day I had a  family of four from Austria and they came here just to see Heartland," she says. "They wanted to go and see the ranch and see as much as they could of Heartland and so definitely there's a lot of people coming for Heartland."

She says the number of visitors was down this year from last and that's partly due to fewer events being held in town where they could set up the remote VIC.
