Hockey style, turned hockey fundraiser, for the Okotoks Minor Hockey Association's Jersey and Jeans event on Saturday night.

OMHA is fundraising to help support the Pason Centennial Arena twinning project.

Karla Helm, Event Coordinator says, having the extra arena will make it so much easier to keep youth in the game, specially as they get older.

"Once they're older they start travelling farther and coming home later." Helm says "Players often get home at 11:30 PM just after hockey practice, so this new rink is definitely needed."

For players in school, these late nights can upset grades and school performance.

Helm says it's awesome to see the community pull together to help solve the lack of space to play hockey.

"There's a lot of volunteers that go into making this event happen. This year we had a local company that volunteered 6 people from their company for the night."

Many local businesses have donated items to the silent auction as well.

More ice time would lead to more tournaments in our town, which could increase funds to the teams hosting.

"I know that there are some places in Calgary that host tournaments as a team event, they host a tournament to fundraise." Helm adds "Maybe when we get the new ice, that will be a possibilty for us as well."

The event sold approximately 430 tickets, and the profits from the auction amounted to nearly $17,000.
